Your Langney Lib Dem team is continuing to fight Conservative controlled Wealden Council’s plans to build 220 homes behind Oak Tree Lane, Helvellyn Drive, Penrith Way and Pennine Way.
Local Councillors Troy Tester, Alan Shuttleworth and Harun Miah have spoken against the Wealden Plans at the council and have made representations to the Government Planning Inspector Michael Moore opposing this development and the way in which Wealden Council failed to have meaningful consultatation with their neighbours in Langney.
The Planning Inspector has now identified “some significant concerns” relating to the Wealden Plans. In view of the concerns expressed by ourselves, local residents and the inspector we are now asking that the Wealden Core Strategy be withdrawn and looked at again.
Cllr Harun Miah said “We are determined to prevent development on our precious green spaces around Langney and we want to thank the large number of local residents who have also made representations to oppose the Wealden Plan.”
“If these new developments proceeded then they would put more pressure upon the already stretched local services such as schools and health, transport and community services in Langney” added Cllr Troy Tester, “and Wealden District Council have made no indication that they would intend to contribute to improving these.”
Unfortunately, it seems the local Hospital Trust is proposing possible downgrades of Maternity and the Emergency Heart Unit at the DGH.
Local Pharmacist and Councillor, Troy Tester said “ I am very disappointed and angry that after we all fought so hard a few years ago to retain consultant-led maternity at our hospital, the powers that be are even considering the whole issue again!”
Cllr Alan Shuttleworth added “I joined local residents in a demonstration outside the DGH recently, just before the Trust Board meeting. We all want them to understand that Langney residents will simply not accept any downgrading of core services at our local hospital”.
Hide Hollow Estate
Langney’s Lib Dem councillors have been supporting local residents in the Hide Hollow estate in their campaign for refurbishment and repairs of windows by Raglan Housing Association and other maintenance issues such as overgrown shrubbery, fence repairs and clearance of alleyways.

Speeding: KINGFISHER DRIVE, SEVENOAKS ROAD, FOXGLOVE ROAD, PENNINE WAY…….
Working with local police to address continuing concerns about speeding across Langney, especially where young children and the elderly are in the most danger.
Stephen Lloyd MP opened the East Sussex Credit Unions’ latest Help Point in Shinewater at the Shaftesbury Centre in Milfoil Drive recently.
The objective of the credit union is to help people out of poverty by offering debt advice and encouraging people to save with them. Regular savers can then access ethical loans of up to £5000.
Stephen said “ In these challenging times where disposable income is dropping local people saving with the credit union becomes ever more critical. Their loans will also help people who would otherwise be exploited by loan sharks.”
The Credit Union is open on Mondays between 12.30 and 2.30pm.
Local Lib Dem councillor Alan Shuttleworth is continuing to put pressure on Tory controlled East Sussex County Council to sort out the dreadful state of local roads.
Alan has insisted that there be a full investigation by the Scrutiny Task Group to review and improve on procedures. If you see pot holes or other problems with local roads, please report them to the Highways contact centre on 0345 60 80 193.
Stephen Lloyd MP and your local Lib Dem councillors hold regular surgeries in Langney to discuss problems and issues with residents.
Over recent months surgeries have been held at Langney Shopping Centre and at Kamsons Pharmacy in Milfoil Drive.
Stephen Lloyd will be holding a “walk – in” surgery at Langney Shopping Centre on Saturday 3rd December from 12 noon to 2.30pm and your local councillors will have a walk in surgery at Kamsons Pharmacy, Milfoil Drive on Saturday 12th November from 11am to 1pm. You can also book appointments for other surgeries with Stephen and your local councillors by calling 733030.
Your local Lib Dem team would like to congratulate the organisers of the Shinewater Funday on holding another great event this year.
Local councillors were pleased to be able to help out on the day and with the publicity of the event.
We are looking forward to more great events in future years!
Volunteers at the Shinewater Hub in Shinewater Lane have also held succesful family events and are to be congratulated on their work to develop this community facility.
Cllr Alan Shuttleworth said “I have been pleased to be able to assist these two very worthwhile causes in our community.”
LANGNEY residents are celebrating after news that a much-needed crossing has received the green light.
The crossing is planned for Langney Rise, near Langney Shopping Centre.
Local councillor Troy Tester said, “We understand that East Sussex County Council is undertaking the design work and that construction is due to start in the new year.
“This has been a long time coming and will be much appreciated by local residents who have been deeply concerned about crossing this very busy road, especially the elderly and those with young children.”
Councillor Alan Shuttleworth added, “Langney Rise is one of the main routes into Eastbourne and is extremely busy.
“It is essential that there is a safe crossing for local residents to reach the shopping centre, local schools and other local amenities.”
Consultation on the details of the scheme are taking place this autumn with work due to start following the completion of this work.
Local councillor Troy Tester has recently been fighting to get the missing street name plate at the entrance to Heather Close replaced.
Cllr Tester said “although these things may appear small when they add up they can start to have a real impact on the quality of our local area and so we always take them seriously. A missing street name plate can cause real problems to visitors to the area or, more importantly, to the emergency services such as ambulances and on-call doctors who then can’t find the person who so desperately needs their help.”
Following pressure from Councillor Tester the sign has now been replaced.
